Ostapenko won her place in Thursday's semi final after a sensational victory over former world number one Catherine Wosniacki of Denmark in the quarter final (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).
In the semi final she will play Swiss 30th seed Timea Bacsinszky, who beat France's Kristina Mladenovic 6-4 6-4. And if she plays anything like she did Wednesday, Ostapenko is entirely capable of making Saturday's final, which would rank as the greatest achievement of any Latvian tennis player.
The Riga-born star is just 19 years of age and despite being an obvious talent for years is still developing as a player. June 8, the day of the semi-final, also just happens to be her 20th birthday.
