17th International Baltic Ballet Festival in Rīga to Present a Vibrant Program
From April 27 to May 28, the 17th International Baltic Ballet Festival will delight ballet fans with fantastic performances, world-class host performers and new styles of dance - from classical dance to avant-garde.
The festival has become a delightful tradition of dancing style and significant cultural event of international scale featuring a range of ballet and dance performances, photo exhibition, special movie shows and even a dance show.
The traditional opening concert of the festival will take place at Rīga Railway Station on April 27, and on April 30 all fans of dance are invited to the most intriguing event of the festival at the Latvian National Opera House (LNO), the Gala Concert, where world-known ballet starts from the Netherlands, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Portugal, Georgia, USA, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia will perform.
The dance group Beau geste (France) will be one of the special surprises of this year's festival, as their performance-show Unusual Transport (Transports exceptionnels) on May 8 at Rīga Railway Station square will present the dance of a dancer and an excavator.
As part of the festival, a one-man exhibition Fascination of Ballet Art, by photographer Igor Zaharkin (Moscow), will be exhibited on Rīdzene Street in the shopping mall Galerija Centrs whereas the documentary Pina by Wim Wenders (Germany), devoted to the legendary dance artist Pina Bausch, will be screened at a special show in the cinema Splendid Palace on April 28.
On May 16, the German documentary Dancing Dreams – Youngsters Dancing a Performance of Pina Bausch’s Kontakthof will be screened free of charge at the Goethe Institute in Rīga.
