Latvian motocross rider Pauls Jonass of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team was crowned the 2017 MX2 World Champion on September 17, reports .

At the French Grand Prix, Jonass had to finish 12th or higher in Race 1 to take the title. However, it seemed he might have blown it when he went down after colliding with another rider at the start of the race, then fell again. Nevertheless, Jonass made up his way to sixth place to win the championship. In Race 2, Jonass finished third (and fifth overall).
